Susan Mutami, the mother of Tino—her son with Zimbabwean politician Temba Mliswa—has sparked widespread conversation online after publicly urging Mliswa to address Tino’s heartfelt wish for a baby sister.
In a message reportedly shared via social media, Mutami disclosed that Tino had repeatedly asked her about the possibility of having a younger sister. The curiosity intensified after a friend from daycare introduced his own sibling, prompting Tino to express the same desire at home.
“Dear Temba Mliswa @TembaMliswa, your son has asked me many times whether he could have a baby sister,” Mutami wrote in her post. “I told Tino he has plenty of sisters back in Zimbabwe, but he insists on having one here. In my house, if Tino wants something, I usually make it happen—but this one’s out of my hands.”
In a surprising gesture, Mutami revealed that she had unblocked Mliswa to allow open communication between the estranged parents and to encourage dialogue for the sake of their son. She even suggested involving former minister Saviour Kasukuwere as a possible mediator in navigating the situation.
“Maybe having someone like @Hon_Kasukuwere help mediate would bring some clarity—for Tino’s sake, and to help us focus on his wellbeing,” she added.
Mutami also noted that Tino misses his father deeply, often looking up his location on a map, and that his older brother had been teaching him how to read maps so he wouldn’t forget where home is.
