ZRP Arrests Mambo Beverages Directors Over Illicit Alcohol Production

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) yesterday arrested 30 employees, including directors and managers at Mambo Manufacturing Company in Harare.

The individuals were taken into custody for allegedly manufacturing and distributing illicit alcoholic beverages without adhering to health regulations and national laws.

ZRP Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests of Mambo Beverages staff and board members, accusing them of producing spirits in a manner that clearly violated Zimbabwe’s legal and health standards.

“Health regulations were not observed. As you can see from the state of the premises, there were serious concerns regarding safety, health, and the security of Zimbabweans,” said Commissioner Nyathi. “We have recovered substances valued at US$165,000. Investigations are ongoing, and we want to urge all companies, whether run by locals or foreigners, to follow the laws of the country.”

He added: “It is not enough to simply have a tax clearance. If a company is manufacturing substances, it must ensure full compliance with all relevant laws. In this particular case, it is illegal to use industrial ethanol to produce spirits or beer under the guise of liquor manufacturing. We will not compromise when it comes to protecting the health and safety of Zimbabweans.”

Earlier this month, ZRP also arrested seven company executives for producing illicit brews using ethanol, water, and flavouring agents and distributing them to shops and the general public
