Zimbabwe, China Deepen Strategic Ties Through New Parliamentary Association

Harare, Zimbabwe –Zimbabwe and China have pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation through a newly launched Zimbabwe-China Parliamentary Friendship Association, reinforcing their decades-old alliance rooted in anti-colonial solidarity and mutual development goals.

Speaking at the launch event in Harare, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to Harare, describing the relationship as one built on shared values and enduring support.

“China and Zimbabwe have stood together through key moments in history, and we remain committed partners in peace, development, and global cooperation,” said Ambassador Zhou.

The association is expected to enhance parliamentary collaboration, policy dialogue, and cultural exchanges between the two nations. Zimbabwean lawmakers in attendance welcomed the initiative, describing the bilateral relationship as a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy.

The two countries share a long-standing relationship that began during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, with China providing military and political backing. In recent years, the partnership has expanded to include large-scale infrastructure projects, trade agreements, and investments under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Officials said the new parliamentary body will promote legislative synergy, facilitate people-to-people connections, and deepen strategic cooperation across sectors.

No specific policy announcements were made at the launch, but both governments signaled intent to build on existing economic and diplomatic ties.

An official statement from the friendship platform reiterated the commitment: “Zimbabwe and China remain enduring partners. The friendship is deep, strategic, and forward-looking.”
