ZDF Disassociates from Blessed Geza, Issues Warning on Military Uniforms

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) have publicly distanced themselves from war veteran Blessed Geza and cautioned the public against impersonating military personnel or wearing army uniforms without authorization.

The ZDF’s statement follows a viral video that showed Geza in full military attire. In the wake of the video, the army clarified that Geza’s actions and recent social media remarks do not reflect the position of the Defence Forces.

The ZDF emphasized that any communications regarding official matters are only made through established channels, not social media.

“We are concerned by recent comments made by some individuals, including retired members, that could be misinterpreted as the stance of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces,” the statement reads. “The ZDF disassociates itself from all social media comments from the public, including some retired members.”

In addition to distancing itself from Geza, the ZDF issued a strong reminder about the Defence Act (Chapter 11:02), which criminalizes the unauthorized use of military uniforms. Section 99 (2)(c) of the Act makes it illegal for civilians to wear or use military decorations or uniforms without proper authority.

“The misuse of military uniforms is a criminal offense,” the statement warned, adding that members of the public should report any individuals seen in military attire outside official military areas or those impersonating soldiers while engaging in unlawful activities.

Reports of such incidents can be made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police or the Zimbabwe Military Police.
