What Really Happened in the Warren Park Killing?

Warren Park, Harare, Zimbabwe | Questions continue to emerge following the arrest of 28-year-old Shepherd Severa over the killing of his friend, Bryan Nandana, whose body was discovered at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare.

While police say Severa confessed to the crime, details surrounding the incident have sparked widespread public debate, speculation, and concern across social media and local communities.

Bryan Nandana, 29, is remembered by friends and relatives as a humble and deeply religious man who was widely respected by those who knew him. His death has left many struggling to understand how a friendship reportedly ended in violence.

According to police investigations, Nandana met Severa in the early hours of Wednesday morning near Pfukwa Shopping Centre in Warren Park. Investigators believe the meeting was linked to an unpaid debt of about US$2,800 which Nandana allegedly owed Severa.

Sources familiar with the case claim the two men argued before the confrontation turned violent. Police allege Severa attacked Nandana with a kitchen knife, inflicting fatal injuries.

Authorities say the suspect then transported the body in a white Toyota Aqua to Warren Hills Cemetery, where it was allegedly concealed in a shallow grave.

The case took another disturbing turn after reports emerged that Severa allegedly drank the victim’s blood after the killing. Police say this information came from the suspect’s confession during investigations.

Investigators reportedly recovered a blood-stained Toyota Aqua vehicle and a mobile phone at the cemetery, evidence that allegedly helped link Severa to the crime.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest and said detectives were able to recover the victim’s body after the suspect allegedly led them to the burial site.

“The arrest follows the recovery of a blood-stained Toyota Aqua vehicle at Warren Hills Cemetery,” said Nyathi.

Police said the body had visible injuries, including a deep wound to the neck.

As investigations continue, some residents in Warren Park have speculated that the murder could have been linked to ritual practices, although authorities have not officially confirmed such claims.

Meanwhile, tributes continue pouring in for Nandana, who was described by the Centre of Hope ministry as a gifted pianist and committed member of the church community.

In a statement, the ministry said Nandana played an important role in its programmes and would be remembered for his humility, dedication, and passion for worship.

Family members, friends, and church members are now mourning a man many say lived peacefully and served others through music and ministry, while police work to establish the full circumstances behind his death.
