Three Mabvuku Women Charged with Murder Following Bar Altercation

Three women from Mabvuku are facing murder charges after a man they allegedly assaulted at a bar in Old Tafara succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Mavis Gambiza (36), Sharon Tayengwa (26), and Sharon Mafushe recently appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Isheunesu Matova, who remanded them in custody until March 3, pending trial.

According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the incident took place in the early hours of February 13 at Babylon Bar in Old Tafara. The three women allegedly confronted Charles Julius, accusing him of stealing Gambiza’s cellphone. The altercation escalated, and they reportedly struck him multiple times on the head with a pot and other unidentified objects, leaving him with serious injuries.

Julius received treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals under police reference OB1027/25 and was discharged the same day. However, his condition worsened, and he passed away at home two days later.

Following his death, authorities arrested the suspects, who were subsequently brought before the court. Magistrate Matova advised them that any bail application would have to be submitted to the High Court.

The case continues as investigations proceed.
