President Commissions New Refuse Compactors for Geo-Pomona

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday said environmental cleanliness plays a critical role in enhancing Zimbabwe’s image as an attractive destination for investment and tourism.

Speaking at the commissioning of new refuse compactors and equipment for Geo-Pomona Waste Management (Private) Limited, the President said the project would reinforce Zimbabwe’s recent recognition as the World’s Best Country to Visit in 2025, citing sustainable environmental management and ecological diplomacy as key contributors to the accolade.

President Mnangagwa called for the development of tailored waste management systems to safeguard the environment amid growing industrialisation and modernisation. He urged responsible authorities to ensure that cities, towns, municipalities and growth points maintain clean, safe and healthy environments that reflect national pride.

He also challenged local authorities and communities to take full responsibility for the National Clean-Up Day, held on the first Friday of every month, and commended local authorities that consistently uphold high standards of cleanliness, public health and urban beautification.

In his remarks, the President urged Zimbabweans to demonstrate greater environmental stewardship as the country continues to build, modernise and industrialise. He then officially commissioned the new fleet of refuse compactors and related equipment at Geo-Pomona.

The event marked a key development in Zimbabwe’s efforts to strengthen sustainable urban management and environmental resilience.
