Authorities have launched an investigation following a daring armed robbery at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera, where US$75,000 in cash was stolen.
The incident occurred just days after businessman Wicknell Chivayo paid lobola for his wife, Lulu Muteke.
According to reports, a group of up to 19 armed men raided the farm in the early hours, making off with the substantial sum.
Chivayo had previously addressed speculation about his lobola payment, clarifying that he did not pay the rumored US$300,000. Instead, he revealed that his in-laws charged him less than US$20,000 for the ceremony.
“I had an additional US$75,000 in my car as a contingency, but it remained unused. The main costs of the event went towards entertainment, decor, and drinks,” Chivayo told H-Metro.
With the robbery occurring shortly after the ceremony, speculation has arisen about whether the stolen money was linked to the funds Chivayo had set aside.
Sources suggest the robbers had inside knowledge of the cash being stored at the farm. The large number of attackers and their swift execution of the crime have raised suspicions about how they knew exactly where to strike.
Police have yet to make any arrests, and investigations are ongoing. Neither Chivayo nor his in-laws have publicly commented on the incident.
