Panic at Sally Mugabe Hospital as Fire Erupts, Cause Still Unknown

A wave of panic swept through Sally Mugabe Central Hospital—commonly referred to as kuGomo or Harare Hospital—in the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025, following a fire outbreak at the major medical institution.

Footage and images showing thick black smoke rising from one of the hospital’s buildings quickly spread across social media, prompting widespread concern and alarm. The dramatic visuals, initially posted by popular content creator King Solomon, fueled immediate speculation about the safety of patients and hospital personnel.

At the time of publishing, the exact cause of the fire had not been confirmed, and the extent of the damage remains unclear. Authorities have yet to issue a full statement detailing the origin or impact of the blaze.

As videos of the incident circulated, social media erupted with anxiety and questions. Many users expressed fear for those inside the facility, while others speculated about possible negligence—or even intentional sabotage.

Some online commentators went further, suggesting the fire might have been started deliberately as a pretext for awarding profitable renovation contracts. While no official claims support this theory, the suspicion has added a layer of public scrutiny to the unfolding situation.

The Zimbabwe Times will continue tracking updates as they are released by hospital authorities or emergency services.
