Over 840 Receive Free Treatment in Nyanga North Under Bridging Gaps Foundation Outreach

More than 840 residents in remote areas of Nyanga North received free medical care over the past month, thanks to a health outreach programme led by the Bridging Gaps Foundation (BGF) in partnership with the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The initiative, which ran for four weeks, mobilized a team of 30 volunteer doctors who provided diagnostic services, treatment, and referrals to 842 patients, addressing a wide range of health issues including hypertension, diabetes, eye and skin infections, and other chronic conditions.

Founded by Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei and his wife Mrs. Sandra Tagwirei, the Bridging Gaps Foundation launched the outreach as part of its broader efforts to support Vision 2030 through targeted interventions in health, water, and food security.

Speaking at Kambudzi Clinic during the final day of the programme, Dr. Tagwirei emphasized the foundation’s mission to bring healthcare directly to underserved communities.

“We are not here as guests — we came to walk alongside you. True ministry is about meeting people at their point of need, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. That is the gospel of service,” he said.

BGF also donated critical medical equipment to the clinic, including delivery beds, ward beds, linen, and wheelchairs, a move expected to improve maternal healthcare and reduce the high rate of home births in the region.

Dr. Tagwirei added that these efforts are not merely acts of charity, but part of a long-term strategy to restore dignity, improve livelihoods, and ensure continuity in healthcare services.

“Health is the foundation of any meaningful development. Without it, there can be no productivity or progress,” he stated.

To ensure sustained impact, the foundation announced plans to deploy five permanent staff members in Nyanga North for ongoing coordination of projects. Dr. Tagwirei also encouraged local leaders and residents to take ownership of the programmes to ensure their longevity.

“We are laying the groundwork, but it is the community that must continue building,” he said.

Mrs. Tagwirei, highlighting the spiritual foundation of their humanitarian work, added:

“As Christians, we are called to ease the burdens of others. While we may not eliminate suffering entirely, we can offer relief and restore hope.”

Member of Parliament for Nyanga North, Hon. Chido Sanyatwe, thanked the foundation for its timely intervention, describing the donations and services as transformational for local families, especially in maternal care.

“This is more than a donation — it is an expression of compassion. Many lives have been touched, and the provision of free consultations and specialist care has been life-changing,” she said.

In addition to medical services, the outreach included infrastructure support, with three boreholes drilled at the clinic, a local school, and for the wider community in Ward 9. Dr. Tagwirei also pledged to drill seven more boreholes across the constituency.

Pastor Godfrey Musara, President of the SDA East Union Conference, commended the government for fostering a peaceful environment that enables faith-based organisations to contribute to national development.

Several beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the care received. Mrs. Agnes Karirwi (53), an arthritis sufferer, praised the free treatment, while Ms. Tendai Mudzinge shared how her daughter received on-the-spot treatment for a skin infection.
