Outspoken War Veteran Blessed Geza Dies in South Africa

Outspoken Zimbabwean war veteran Blessed Runesu Geza, widely known as Cde Bombshell, has died in South Africa, his family has confirmed.

Geza passed away on Wednesday morning at a cardiac hospital, bringing to an end a turbulent chapter in Zimbabwe’s recent political discourse. His death comes months after he made headlines by publicly calling for the immediate resignation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a move that forced him into hiding and triggered a nationwide manhunt.

In a statement released by the family, they described Geza as a fearless freedom fighter who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice and dignity for all Zimbabweans.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our hero, Cde Blessed Runesu Geza, popularly known as Cde Bombshell. He touched many lives through his unwavering fight for justice so that Zimbabweans may realise their aspirations,” the statement read.

The family also warned the public against fraudulent fundraising appeals, urging Zimbabweans to ignore any calls for donations towards his funeral.

“We are aware that some individuals may attempt to exploit his death for financial gain. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the family, and official details will be communicated in due course,” the family said, thanking the public for their prayers and support.

A day before his death, Geza released a chilling statement that appeared to foreshadow his passing. In it, he reflected on his declining health while reaffirming his political convictions.

“As I speak now, I feel my energy fading. I may not be here tomorrow, next week, or next month. But I take comfort in knowing that I fought a noble cause, and that you will carry it forward,” he said.

Geza urged Zimbabweans not to surrender to fear, calling on them to remain resolute in their pursuit of a fair and inclusive nation.

“I have never fought for personal gain. I fought for you. I am old and have played my part. Now it is time for you to play yours,” he said.

Once a staunch supporter of President Mnangagwa, Geza later apologised publicly for his role in the 2017 military-assisted transition that ended the rule of former president **Robert Mugabe**. He became increasingly critical of the current administration, accusing it of fostering corruption and economic plunder while ordinary citizens suffered.

In recent months, Geza openly backed Vice President Constantino Chiwenga as a potential successor to Mnangagwa, claims that fuelled speculation of deepening factional tensions within the ruling ZANU PF party. Unconfirmed reports suggested he may have enjoyed protection from elements within the security sector.

Despite his controversial stance, Geza remained defiant until the end, insisting that Zimbabwe’s struggle for accountability and equality must continue.

“Our victory is not a distant dream. It is within our grasp. Do not turn back now,” he said in his final message.

Blessed Geza leaves behind a legacy marked by courage, controversy, and an unyielding belief in the power of the people.
