Mai Jeremaya Stars in Controversial New Film Pa Lodge, Sparks Mixed Reactions in Zimbabwe
Zimbabweans have expressed mixed feelings following the release of a new Naiza Boom film titled Pa Lodge, which features socialite Mai Jeremaya.
The movie portrays the difficult experience she endured at a lodge, as shared in a recent social media clip.
Mai Jeremaya partnered with Naiza Boom to bring her story to the screen, highlighting the events involving two men she accused of assault. The film aims to depict her perspective on the incident.
In the movie, Mai Jeremaya acts alongside a prominent Zimbabwean production company, sharing her personal struggles and how these led her to the lodge in question.
Earlier, Mai Jeremaya had publicly claimed that two men in Eastlea assaulted her. The case went to court, but the men were acquitted due to inconsistencies in the accounts and a lack of sufficient evidence.
Other actors portray the roles of the accused, Martin and Thabo, as the film unfolds from Mai Jeremaya’s viewpoint. The release has sparked varied reactions among Zimbabweans, with some questioning the decision to present the story this way, while others commend her for taking control of her narrative.
Some reactions from social media include:
Dr Paul Jira:
“After calling the experience traumatic, it’s surprising that she would choose to relive it publicly through film. This is confusing for many of us.”
Jamal JRab:
“This is in very poor taste. She must have poor advisors.”
Shaun Matienga:
“The whole film crew needs to be questioned — scriptwriter, actors, director, everyone. What was the purpose of this?”
The film continues to be a topic of discussion as viewers debate the impact of sharing such personal experiences on screen.
