Harare- Following the tragic deaths of flamboyant businessman and Intratrek Zimbabwe CEO Wicknell Chivayo and co-director Ibrahim Yusuf, businessman Tinashe Chavi now finds himself as the sole surviving director of the company on paper, raising speculation that he is likely to assume full control.
“Tinashe was always the real operational backbone while Wicknell was the public face and the political battering ram,” said a former corporate associate close to the company’s internal operations. “Wicknell commanded the headlines and flaunted the wealth, but Chavi was the strategist sitting quietly behind the desk, structuring the bids, reading the fine print, and making sure the machinery actually functioned.”
Beyond his subtle control at Intratrek, corporate insiders reveal that Chavi was also the technical driver and quiet intelligence behind telecommunications venture IMC Communications, maintaining a low profile even while executing multi-million-dollar commercial deals.
While no formal announcement has been made regarding succession, legal and corporate governance optics point to Chavi as the natural successor, given his directorship status and his long-standing close association with the late Wicknell as a trusted lieutenant within the business empire.
However, his long-preferred obscurity is about to face its ultimate test. If he does assume control, financial analysts indicate he would inherit full statutory and fiduciary responsibility for Intratrek’s extensive portfolio, including its legacy Gwanda solar project obligations, pending litigation, and multi-million-dollar creditor liabilities.
Meanwhile, the company’s board chairmanship remains veteran lawyer Wilson Manase, who was one of the last high-profile beneficiaries of Wicknell’s infamous car-giving spree, alongside Advocate Hashiti.
Manase has been the legal brains behind the company .
