HARARE, ZIMBABWE – Bishop Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha, the esteemed second-born son of the late Archbishop Paul Mwazha and a prominent figure within the African Apostolic Church (AAC), passed away on March 17, 2026, at the age of 80. His death follows that of his father, Archbishop Paul Mwazha, who founded the AAC and died last year on November 20, 2025, at 107 years old.
Born in June 1946 at the Howard Institute in Chiweshe, Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha grew up immersed in the spiritual foundations of the African Apostolic Church. He was a sibling to Bishop Ngoni Edward Mwazha and Rudo Nelly, all of whom were part of the pioneering family of one of Zimbabwe’s most significant indigenous churches.
Bishop Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha held a pivotal leadership role within the AAC. In a significant mandate on February 28, 2020, Archbishop Paul Mwazha publicly designated his second-born son, Alfred Kushamisa Mwazha, to lead the church in his absence.
This appointment underscored the trust and responsibility vested in him by the church’s founder. He was also recognized as the leader of the Priesthood Council and served as the Chairman of the African Apostolic Church (VaApostora VeAfrica) Vanotenda mashoko.
His passing marks a profound loss for the African Apostolic Church, which he served with dedication throughout his life. Bishop Mwazha’s contributions were instrumental in guiding the church and its congregants, continuing the spiritual legacy established by his father.
The church community and beyond are mourning the loss of a spiritual leader whose life was devoted to faith and service.
